Message from the Chairman

Welcome to FMSDC official website!

Industry Oriented, Business Focussed and Nation Driven, for three decades, FMSDC has been at the heart of developing the nation’s talent pool in line with socio-economic aspirations.

With the rise of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country and the setting up of factories and manufacturing centres, it was the brainchild of the government to address the shortage of skilled workers by establishing state skill centres (SDC) nationwide. In 1980, Malaysia only had a handful or universities and several technical colleges and polytechnics.

The core fundamentals of the SDC’s existence is the Industries at each locality who plays the driving force to initiate and develop the business policies, type of courses required, development of modules/syllabus and more important the Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) development. Such initiative is further enhance with the support of both state and federal agencies.

With the setting-up of centres nationwide, an umbrella body was formed. Persekutuan Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Malaysia or the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) was established in 1999 under the Societies Act 1966.

FMSDC and its nationwide skill centres were a first for Malaysia. It was unprecedented initiative that involved the federal and state governments, in collaboration with the private sector and academia in meeting the country’s human resource requirements.

Today, FMSDC consists of 13 State Skill Development Centres (SDC’s) nationwide.
